Miscellaneous Classes

Many techniques are based on an understanding of basic underlying needlework concepts. The following programs provide background information that can be used with many types of embroidery.

Needlework Basics: This presentation is designed to familiarize the needleworker with the basic terminology and techniques commonly used by stitchers. Included is information on getting started, basic tools and supplies, materials, stitching techniques, and the care and finishing of projects. The material is written to provide information useful to a novice needleworker.

Pulled Thread: This technique is often used with a large range of other needlework types. Often these designs do not provide adequate instruction on the steps necessary to actually create these stitches. Included is information on getting started, basic tools and supplies, materials, stitching techniques, the care and finishing of projects, and a listing of reference books discussing the topic.

Surface Embroidery: This form of needlework is created with a pointed needle, and is what most often comes to mind when someone talks about "plain old embroidery." Stitching along the lines of a free-form shape, rather than following the weave of the fabric creates these needlework projects. The majority of the thread lays on the surface of the fabric, resulting in a design most visible from the face of the work. The information provided can be used with a wide number of techniques, including Crewel, Schwalm, Shisha, Mountmellick and other forms of white work.
